Kendrick School is its own admissions authority and is not part of a grammar school consortium. This means that if your child is applying to several grammar schools in the area, you will need to complete the registration process for those schools separately.
Girls are selected for places at Kendrick School based on their results in the Kendrick School Admission Test. This is an 11 plus exam, taken in September in Year 6, designed to select the girls who are working within the top 25% of their year group.
Online registration for the Kendrick School 11 plus will open on 1st May 2023 and close at midnight on Saturday 1st July 2023.
You will receive your child's results in the Kendrick School Admission Test in mid-October 2023, indicating whether your daughter is eligible for a grammar school place. You can use these results to decide whether to name Kendrick School as one of your preferred schools on your common application form.
Before listing the school as a preference on your form, check its admissions policy and make sure your child is eligible. Passing the 11 plus will not be a guarantee of a place as more children reach the qualifying standard each year than there are places available.
The application form must be submitted to your home local council by 31st October 2023. The form must be completed for your home local authority – i.e. if Reading Borough Council is your local authority, you will need to complete the common application form on the Reading Council website. If you live in a different local authority, make sure to apply through the relevant website for that council.
Girls applying for a place in Year 7 at Kendrick School will take the 11 plus test on Saturday 16th September 2023.
Kendrick School uses test papers created by GL Assessment. Girls will take two papers, each lasting approximately one hour and consisting of multiple-choice questions. The papers cover a mix of:

Your daughter's marks in the Kendrick School Admission Test will be age-standardised to ensure that children born later in the school year aren't disadvantaged. The aggregate scores will then be placed in rank order.
There is no set pass mark for entry to Kendrick School, as it depends on the success rate of the year group. Children whose aggregate scores are at the top of the ranked list will be most eligible for a place.
However, achieving a score higher on the list won't guarantee a place, as Kendrick School is always oversubscribed with qualified candidates. We always recommend researching the admission policies for your target schools, looking at their oversubscription criteria and their catchment area. We've included the admission criteria for Kendrick School below.
There are 128 places available in Year 7 at Kendrick School. Children who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names Kendrick School and who have reached the qualifying standard in the 11 plus will be admitted automatically. The number of remaining places will then be reduced accordingly.
If the number of children who have reached the qualifying standard in the 11 plus and who list Kendrick School as a preferred school exceeds the number of available places, the school will use oversubscription criteria. Offers will be made from the ranked list in the following order of priority:
1. Looked after and previously looked after children
2. Children who live within Priority Area 1 or 2 and receive the pupil premium or service premium
3. Children who live within Priority Area 1 or 2 (offered until 96 places have been filled)
4. Children who live within Priority Area 1
5. Children who live within Priority Area 2
6. Children whose permanent home address is not within the school's designated area
The catchment area for Kendrick School covers Priority Areas 1 and 2. Each area is determined by the postcode of the child's home address. Places are offered to children who rank highly in the Kendrick School Admission Test and who live within the designated area.
